Doug Drysdale BSc (Hons) FIAA, Director

He established PFS with two other actuaries in April 2001. Doug specialises in providing technical and strategic advice to superannuation funds, government agencies, industry associations, corporations and individuals. He has managed tenders for outsourced corporate superannuation arrangements and overseen the successful implementation of the merger of a number of industry funds. He has also acted as an expert witness advice on various financial issues.
John Newman BBusSc (Hons) FIAA GAICD, Director

He advises superannuation funds and employers on strategic and operational issues, including governance and risk management matters. John also provides actuarial and technical advice. Prior to joining PFS, John was an executive director and worldwide partner of Mercer. He is actively involved in the actuarial profession and has been elected Vice-President of the Actuaries Institute, to become President in 2013.
Martin Fitzpatrick BA (Actuarial Studies), Director

He uses his expertise in superannuation, financial modelling, IT systems and risk management to consult to superannuation funds, industry associations and government entities, as well as to industries other than those in financial services. Prior to joining PFS in 2002, as group superannuation manager for Legal & General, his responsibilities included industry funds, corporate funds, master trust business and group risk business. Whilst at CSC, he ran the business unit delivering pension and superannuation solutions to major superannuation funds and many institutional clients.
Thach Huynh BEc AIAA, Director

You need JavaScript enabled to view itThach Huynh is an associate of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and has over 15 years' experience building complex financial models in Australia and overseas. Thach has developed financial models for superannuation, remuneration strategy and other projects. These include modelling possible future business outcomes for a variety of private and public sector entities and M&A projects. Prior to joining PFS, Thach worked with the ASX providing specialist financial modelling advice and as a management consultant with NMG Financial Services Consulting. Thach is also a senior associate of FINSIA.
Simone Thompson (Knight) BA LLB, Director

You need JavaScript enabled to view itSimone Thompson specialises in advising both AFS and RSE licensees on governance, risk and compliance matters. She is actively involved in training directors to make them aware of their obligations and facilitating board performance evaluations and risk management workshops. She also is involved in developing and reviewing member documentation, writing and reviewing policies and procedures, assisting trustees to prepare for and respond to APRA Prudential Reviews, and constructing regular compliance and risk management reports. Simone is also actively involved in a number of super fund trustee sub-committees, and was a recent speaker at the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) National Super Compliance Summit.
Adam Butt BCom PhD FIAA, Principal

You need JavaScript enabled to view itAdam Butt has 10 years of experience in superannuation consulting and research, firstly at Aon Consulting and, since 2005, through a PhD at Australian National University (ANU) in the actuarial management of closed defined benefit schemes. He also worked for Mercer in the UK whilst on sabbatical from the ANU. He is currently a lecturer in actuarial studies and statistics at ANU and a consultant with PFS. Adam has significant experience in stochastic modelling (primarily in superannuation) and other financial modelling problems.
Richard Cornwell BEc FIAA, Principal

He has worked across strategy, financial engineering, risk management, financial reporting, business valuations, product development, tax, pricing strategies, enterprise architecture, and business case development.
Rebecca Johnstone BA/LLB PhD (Law), Principal

Rebecca specialises in financial services regulation and self-regulation, helping clients develop policy and present it to stakeholders. Having previously practiced as a commercial lawyer and as manager of policy with the Insurance Council of Australia, Rebecca has over ten years experience in the legal and financial service industries.
Richard Lyon MA FIAA, Principal

Richard has a strong background in life insurance, including 12 years at AMP and 3 years as Appointed Actuary at RSA Life (Australia). He has also been a partner at Coopers & Lybrand. Richard is an editor and author of Understanding Actuarial Management: the actuarial control cycle and has served on several committees of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, including its Council.

He is experienced in issues management, strategy development, government and stakeholder relations, communications and media strategies, policy research and development, international trade and regulation and crisis management. Philip has experience on a number of boards including as a director (both executive and non-executive) of insurance organisations. Prior to joining PFS, he was managing director of the Commonwealth Government-supported HIH Claims Support Limited and deputy chief executive of the Insurance Council of Australia.
Angie Mastrippolito BSc DipEd FIAA, Principal

She previously had roles as Principal Consultant and Actuary at Actuaries in Super, Mercer and Watson Wyatt. Angie has extensive experience in providing practical consulting advice to trustee boards and corporate clients in relation to all aspects of superannuation, employee benefits and actuarial services. She has particular expertise in the management of complex defined benefit funds and pension arrangements; insurance issues and the management of successor fund transfers.

Prior to joining PFS, Peter held senior positions as a Principal and Actuary at NSP Buck and AMP. Peter specialises in providing practical consulting advice to trustee boards and corporate clients. He provides advice to trustee boards on a broad range of issues including defined benefit funding, insurance arrangements and investment policies. Peter also provides actuarial services including valuations for portable long service leave schemes and projected fund cash flows.
Barry Rafe BSc FIAA FAICD , Principal

Barry joined PFS in 2011 after a period of postgraduate study in philosophy. Previously, he held senior consulting positions as a strategy partner at Accenture and head of the financial services practice at Trowbridge Consulting, and has advised the Federal Government on health insurance. Barry is a past president of the Actuaries Institute.
Fred Rowley MA FIAA FIAI, Principal

He is an experienced financial and project manager, and a senior actuary, who has held a number of top-level roles in Australia and the UK. Prior to joining PFS, Fred was a Vice President of Metlife and Chief Corporate Actuary of AMP. He is actively involved in the actuarial profession and is a past president of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and an Australian delegate to the International Actuarial Association Council.
Rhonda Virtue Dip SM, Dip FS (Brok), Principal

You need JavaScript enabled to view itRhonda Virtue has over 20 years of experience specialising in group insurance and is well known in the industry as one of the leading consultants in group insurance. Prior to joining PFS, Rhonda was Head of Group Risk at Asteron, and earlier with Rice Walker Actuaries and Aon Consulting. Her experience includes strategic and insurance product design advice, management of group insurance tenders for large superannuation funds and organisations, and advice on the associated administration process and systems support. She has also drafted group policy documents for insurers and been called upon to act as an expert witness in group insurance. Rhonda's particular area of focus is review and reporting, to the Trustees and Administrators of large superannuation funds, on the operational risk of administering funds' underlying group insurance policies.
Derek Abrahams BSc (Hons)

He has specialist expertise in superannuation, technical and compliance matters, communications and policy development. Derek maintains PFS's internal research to keep our staff and clients up to date with regulatory and other industry changes. Prior to joining PFS, Derek was Knowledge Manager at NSP Buck. He is actively involved in the industry and is a member of the course committee for the Defined Benefit unit in ASFA's Diploma of Superannuation Management.
Belinda Burton LLB LLM

You need JavaScript enabled to view itBelinda is an Australian and UK qualified solicitor who practiced in the area of Corporate/Commercial Law and regulation of UK publicly-listed companies, before joining PFS in 2007. She is actively involved in completing licensing applications and the provision of ongoing governance, compliance and risk management services to both AFS and RSE licensees. This includes developing and reviewing internal policies and procedures, facilitating compliance and risk management training for trustee directors, executive officers and authorised representatives, undertaking reviews and updates of compliance and risk management frameworks, and preparing compliance and risk management reports.
Stephen Crump BA FIAA

Prior to working at PFS, Stephen was a Principal at Mercer for six years. Stephen has been actuary to several large corporate superannuation funds, and has extensive experience in providing actuarial valuations for funding and for financial reporting purposes. Stephen provides advice to employers and trustees on all aspects of superannuation including mergers, divestments and fund windups. He is an experienced financial modeller, and has developed many automated spreadsheet models to assist clients with financial analysis and reporting. Stephen also provides advice to a range of credit unions on National Credit Code and related compliance issues.

Steven Roberts PhD AIAA

He enjoys researching, teaching and consulting in the broad area of applied statistics. His particular interests are statistical modelling and data analysis across a range of data, including epidemiological data and modelling of retirement expenditure. Steven?s research has been published in international peer reviewed journals.
